There are various ways to hear music and various ways to record or capture it. Most musicians prefer the live setting, whereby they will appear (usually) onstage in front of an audience, where they will then perform their own or others songs for all to enjoy. Before the ability to record music came about, this was the only way to experience music, with performers appearing in large concert halls to showcase their talents to large numbers of people.Music
This still happens, but music can now be recorded and packaged for us all to hear, either on the radio or on a CD or downloaded item, ready for us to listen to whenever we like. Different genres of music depend on recordings and the live experience differently. In pop music often heard on the likes of shows like The X-Factor, enormous revenue is made from the sales of recordings and so these copies have a lot of work put into them. In some cases, the performer will then mime the song instead of singing it onstage (though this is not always the case). For rock bands, some consider a recording or an album to merely be the promotional item for their live show, where the band truly shines.
Music can be experienced in many forms, and this will likely allow the art form to survive for years to come.
